| Fencing For the Future: Fence 1.5ha of wetland vegetation to prevent stock access and improve biodiversity habitat Thanks to OneSteel, Waratah's new Fencing Grants Program, WetlandCare Australia received a grant that has enabled the group to fund the fencing of a 1.5ha wetland rehabilitation area within a private property in Knockrow, NSW. |

| Little Broadwater: Wetland Rehabilitation, Fish Passage Wetland Care Australia has secured Recreational Fishing Trust funds administered by NSW Fisheries for its project – Little Broadwater: Wetland Rehabilitation, Fish Passage, which will restore natural tidal flow to approximately 100 ha of former fish habitat by opening floodgates to a former estuarine wetland known as Little Broadwater Swamp. |
| Lower Bungawalbin Riparian Restoration Project The Lower Bungawalbin Riparian Restoration Project was a three year project completed in 2006. The project was run by Bungawalbin Catchment Management Group in conjunction with WetlandCare Australia and funded by the NSW Environmental Trust. |
| Mynumai Lagoon - Restoration and Protection Mynumai Lagoon is an 8 hectare lagoon located 4km east of the town of Coraki in Northern NSW, Australia. WetlandCare Australia has worked on several project from 2003 to 2007 including fencing, planting and aquatic weed removal. The lagoon remains open and water quality continues to improve with fish and birds now returning. |
| Passage to the sea - Fish flow restored at Clarence River's Shallow Channel After 80 years of being alienated from marine and estuarine waters, Shallow Channel in the lower Clarence River Estuary, NSW, has been reunited with tidal flows. In 2008, a $420,000 double-celled box culvert was constructed at Shallow Channel Causeway. It was initially facilitated by WetlandCare Australia, with funds contributed by: the Recreational Fishing Community Grants Program; Clarence Valley Council, NSW Department of Primary Industries’ ‘Bringing Back the Fish’ program; and Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority. Installation of the culvert was managed by Clarence Valley Council. |
| Priority Wetlands - three years of success in protecting and restoring NSW priority wetlands Over three consecutive years WetlandCare Australia and the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority (NRCMA) have provided funds directly to landholders for wetland rehabilitation and conservation in priority wetland areas. |
| Restoration of Montane Wetland Endangered Ecological Communities The Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority (NRCMA) has provided WCA with funding to work with landholders over the coming year to manage and restore Montane EEC Wetlands within the NRCMA management area. |
| Restoration Strategy for Belongil-Cumbebin Wetland The Wetland Restoration Strategy (WRS) for the Belongil-Cumbebin Wetland Complex (B-CWC) is part of the North Coast Catchment Management Authority strategy to provide better management of the natural resources. The WRS builds on previous work conducted by a number of organisations and stakeholder groups working on issues such as acid sulfate soils, estuary management, stormwater management and weed control. |
| Sustainable Wetlands on NSW Coastal Landscapes The Sustainable Wetlands on NSW Coastal Landscapes project invested over $530,000 in more than 1,300ha of on-ground wetland rehabilitation works, with flow on benefits to more than 28,000ha of immediately-adjoining priority wetlands. Project funding was provided by the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) through the Hunter Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority with assistance from the Northern Rivers CMA. |

These Guidelines give practical guidance on wetland rehabilitation for farmers, community groups, local councils, Queensland Government agencies, natural resources management bodies and the community. |
| Cattai Wetland Project Plan of Management The Cattai Wetland Project Plan of Management (18 August 2005) has been placed on public exhibition prior to Greater Taree City Council implementing the works program recommended by WetlandCare Australia. |
| Crown Land Conservation Partnerships WetlandCare Australia (WCA), Department of Lands (DoL), Northern Rivers CMA (NRCMA), and Department of Primary Industries (DPI), worked together on a pilot program in the Clarence Catchment to identify and map the intersection of crown land grazing licences with priority wetland and key fish habitat areas. |
| Estuarine Wetland Health Assessment The Estuarine Wetland Assessment project was funded by the NSW Government's Environmental Trust. It developed a sound methodology for assessing and prioritising estuarine wetlands, including intertidal mangroves & saltmarsh and dunal swamps & lagoons by reviewing and adapting existing assessment techniques & the guidance of a Technical Advisory Group (TAG). The result of this project was the development of the Wetland Assessment Technique. |

Jacana are listed as vulnerable and black-necked storks (BNS) are listed as endangered under NSW threatened species legislation. |

| Protecting and Recovering Threatened Species and Endangered Ecological Communities on the NSW North Coast WetlandCare Australia has been working in partnership with local landholders with funding from the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority to protect important areas on the mid-north coast, habitat for the Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater, as well as the endangered Koala and Wompoo Fruit Dove. |
| Recovery Plan Implementation for Threatened Flora-Scented Acronychia, Moonee Quassia, Beadles Grevillea And Square Stemmed Spike Rush This project is funded by the NRCMA and involves the implementation or recovery plans for various threatened plants occurring on private property. The project has commenced with field assessments for each species and planning for restoration and conservation actions in a number of sites on the Mid North Coast (Port Macquarie - Coffs Harbour) and Northern Rivers (Ballina - Grafton). |
| Threatened fauna - Habitat enhancement and threat abatement - Stage 2 This Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority funded project has accomplished substantial increased recovery outcomes, habitat enhancements and threat reductions for the Bush Stone Curlew, Barking Owl and Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby. |
| Threatened fauna - Habitat Enhancement and Threat Abatement Project 06 - 09 WetlandCare Australia has successfully completed a three year Threatened Fauna Habitat Enhancement and Threat Abatement project. Funded by the Northern Rivers CMA, the project has targeted four iconic threatened species – the Bush Stone-Curlew, the Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby, the Barking Owl and the Green and Golden Bell frog. |
| Threatened Species Habitat Enhancement: White Flowered Wax Plant During this Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority funded project the distribution of Cynanchum elegans in the area was recorded to establish protected areas. Education programs were conducted throughout the community to educate landholders about the habitat requirements of this endangered plant and about measures that need to be taken to ensure its survival. |

| Farms, Fish and Floodgates Extension Program Funded by NSW Environment Trust, the Farmers, Fish and Floodgates Extension Program was a comprehensive 'learning by doing' extension package for farmers and landholders to improve water quality and fish habitat. The program focused on the Clarence catchment (70%) with additional sites in the Macleay (10%) and Richmond Catchments (20%). |
| Wonderful Wetland Workshops on the South Coast Cassie Price, Senior Projects Coordinator recently delivered four wetland workshops during April 2009 on the South Coast of NSW at Moss Vale, Shoalhaven, Kiama-Shellharbour and Wollongong. |
| Bungawalbin Wetland Health Project This project was funded by the Myer Foundation. WCA's Garry Owers developed management plans, with farmers, to improve creek water quality by decreasing black water events and the negative effects of the oxidation of potential acid sulfate soils. |
| Coastal Floodplain & Acid Sulfate Soil Management Projects - Bellinger and Nambucca This project provided a suite of on-ground projects supported by extension and advisory services covering the Tweed, Richmond, Clarence, Bellinger, Nambucca, Macleay and Hastings floodplains improved the environmental management of acid sulfate soils (ASS) hot spot areas and the implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs) on relevant floodplains. |

| Condition Assessment and Prioritisation of Targeted Wetland Complexes (NRCMB) WetlandCare Australia and NSW Department of Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources (DIPNR) partnered to complete the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Board (NRCMB) Condition Assessment and Prioritisation of Targeted Wetlands Project. |
| Fish Unlimited Fish Unlimited, an innovative environmental project which aimed to repair over 130 ha of fish habitat stretching from Tweed Heads to Ballina NSW. Landholders were paid to conduct agreed on-ground works and also receive fair market-value stewardship payments for "lost" productivity on the private land returned to fish habitat. Seventy percent (70 %) of repaired fish habitat will be privately owned grazing or sugar cane land, and thirty percent (30%) will be owned or managed by Local Government or Traditional Owners. |
| Kroehns Landing, SA Identified as a high priority wetland in the Mid Murray Local Action Plan (MMLAP 2000) the project addressed key wetland degradation issues associated with changes to the natural hydrological regime, past and present management practices, and the invasion of pest plant species. |
| North Coast Wetland Action - Practical Support for Landholders Wetland Care Australia has coordinated a series of projects in the North Coast region, including the 2001 NSW Environment Trust funded "Model Management Sites" project, all of which have identified the further awareness-raising needs of landholders and wetland managers. |
| Northern Rivers Model Management, North Coast, NSW This project addressed the significant loss of riparian vegetation and degradation of wetlands in Northern NSW. The development of 'Model Management Sites' along the coast has provided a demonstration, on-ground, of how to achieve successful riparian habitat rehabilitation. In most cases, the community group or landholders are now managing the project, including running field days and accessing funding for continuing works. This project is funded by the NSW Environmental Trust. |
| Paringa Paddock & Goat Island, Paringa, SA This Wetland Management Plan was prepared in 1998. This project encompasses vegetation management, reinstatement of flow paths, control of exotic plants and feral animals and fire track maintenance. Funding for the initial works has allowed construction of two fords in 2002. |
| Reedy Creek, Paringa SA This project to rehabilitated the Reedy Creek Lagoon at Paringa by the enhancement of flows to halt silt accumulation. This will be achieved by larger flow capacity in the causeway through the installation of 4 600mm pipes. |
| Vegetative Filter Strips, North Coast NSW The project developed vegetation filter strip technology to provide a cost effective model to improve biodiversity and water quality. The project was primarily aimed at cane farming. Several species of native and some exotic grasses were trailed for their values to attenuate pesticides and also to test their physical properties for use in a cane framing environment. This is an NHT funded project. |
| Wetland Care Australia's Living Wetlands Fund Project The Living Wetlands Fund was a monetary grant provided by Environment Australia to aid wetland rehabilitation throughout Australia. The fund was devolved to community groups and managed by Wetland Care Australia. It was first launched in 2000 and has continued through to 2003, during which time 33 local organisations across Australia have received funding. |
