Wonderful Wetland Workshops on the South Coast
WetlandCare Australia presenter, Cassie Price (Senior Project Coordinator) recently delivered four wetland workshops during April 2009 on the South Coast of NSW at Moss Vale, Shoalhaven, Kiama-Shellharbour and Wollongong. The community workshops were supported by the Southern Rivers Bushcare Network and the Small Farms Network and included members from the community, Conservation Volunteers Australia, Bushcare, LandCare, Streamwatch, Australian Plant Society, local government, TAFE NSW, National Parks Association, students and landholders.
The participants learnt about a wide variety of topics relating to wetlands including;
- Identifying wetlands
- Wetland types
- The importance of wetlands Legislation and wetland management
- Wetland vegetation
- Wetland plant and weed identification
The feedback from the workshops was extremely positive with all participants rating the workshops as valuable and all participants stating that the workshops had increased their interest in wetland assessment, management and rehabilitation. Some photos of the workshops can be seen below:
