Mapping, Classification and Prioritisation
Clarence River estuary saltmarsh project
This project involved the assessment of 277ha of coastal saltmarsh in the field and the sites compared with previous (2006) saltmarsh mapping which identified only 148ha at these & nearby locations. As a result the total area of Clarence estuary saltmarsh is estimated to be closer to 540ha, rather than the 290ha previously identified.
Targeted Wetland Complexes
WetlandCare Australia and NSW Department of Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources (DIPNR) partnered to complete the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Board (NRCMB) Condition Assessment and Prioritisation of Targeted Wetlands Project.
Crown Land Conservation Partnerships
WetlandCare Australia (WCA), Department of Lands (DoL), Northern Rivers CMA (NRCMA), and Department of Primary Industries (DPI), worked together on a pilot program in the Clarence Catchment to identify and map the intersection of crown land grazing licences with priority wetland and key fish habitat areas.
Mapping Wetlands of the South Coast, NSW
WetlandCare Australia has been at it again, mapping wetlands in the CMA regions of NSW. We have been working in partnership with the Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority with funding from the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country initiative to map over 150,000 hectares in the Southern Rivers region.
Sustainable Wetlands
The Sustainable Wetlands on NSW Coastal Landscapes project invested over $530,000 in more than 1,300ha of on-ground wetland rehabilitation works, with flow on benefits to more than 28,000ha of immediately-adjoining priority wetlands. Project funding was provided by the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) through the Hunter Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority with assistance from the Northern Rivers CMA.
Burnett Mary Region
WetlandCare Australia in partnership with the Burnett Mary Regional Group worked on the identification and implementation of on-ground works for strategic wetland targets, including collaboration with key stakeholders, supporting wetland project planning and facilitation throughout the region.
Southern Rivers Wetland Mapping, Classification and Prioritisation
A new mapping project has begun in the Southern Rivers area of NSW which will build on WetlandCare Australia's already extensive mapping database covering the Northern Rivers, the Hunter Central Rivers, the Central West and the Sydney Metro catchments.
