WetlandCare Australia attends Wild Wetlands Day in Grafton
WetlandCare Australia was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Wild Wetlands Day held at Grafton Regional Gallery on Thursday October 20. The day was organised to give Grafton primary school students the opportunity to immerse themselves in all things wetlands - art, photography, water bugs, birds and water quality!
The day saw home school students as well as students from Grafton Primary learn and explore the importance of local wetlands, their threats and what can be done to protect them. There were many guest presenters including Nigel Blake from the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority (NRCMA) and Kirralee Donovan from WetlandCare Australia. Nigel caught some fascinating water bugs for the students to indentify whilst Kirralee involved the students in a water quality demonstration. Isabel Borrelli from the NRCMA Board did a fabulous job of organising the day and involving the students in all things wetlands!
The day also provided an opportunity for students to gather ideas for the WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition from past entries on exhibition. Entries for the 2012 WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition are open till 2nd December 2011. The theme is Wetlands, Tourism and Recreation.
