WetlandCare Australia celebrates World Environment Day
The positive actions WetlandCare Australia is undertaking to celebrate World Environment Day include:
- Tree Planting on Jali Lands near Wardell, 15 km south west of Ballina. Our Community Environment Partner the Ramada Hotel Suites Ballina Byron will be joining us together with the Mibinji Restoration Bush Crew to ensure the continuing health of some of NSW's most pristine and biodiverse wetlands through Restoring Jali Lands at Wardell Project. Trees are being generously supplied by the Ballina Shire Council.
- Assisting to rehabilitate a degraded section of the Lennox Headland through a World Environment Day Planting Event. The Newtrain Green Team will be joining us;
- Interactive Display at a Swap Market (re-use) hosted by Byron Shire Council and held at the front of the chambers in Mullumbimby. Our aim is to foster community action around sustainability and to improve awareness about our Coastal 20 Wetlands Project funded by the Australian Government's Caring for Our Country Program.
- Exhibiting at Logan Eco Action Festival between the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Promoting awareness around the importance of wetlands and the restoration work we will be undertaking at Carbrook Wetlands as part of our Coastal 20 Wetlands Project;
- Exhibiting at the Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival 2011 to empower communities to protect our local wetlands and waterways including Noosa River Wetlands, Lake Weyba, Coolum Creek/Lower Maroochy River and Upper Pumicestone Coastal Plain as part of our Coastal 20 Wetlands Project.
- Undertaking a comprehensive flora and fauna survey as part of our Coastal 20 Wetlands Project. The survey will be undertaken with 10 other natural resource management agencies at Bustard Bay in the Burnett Mary region of Queensland. Mammal trapping will also be undertaken to collect data on the endangered water mouse which is listed as a threatened species and is classified as vulnerable under both QLD and National legislation.
