Hunter Nurseries Environmental Management Systems Project
WetlandCare Australia is running a project to help selected nurseries in the Hunter to develop Environmental Management Systems to reduce their impacts on the environment.

Latest Media Release: WetlandCare Australia helps nurseries improve environmental management
WetlandCare Australia will host a training workshop this Friday 30 March to help nurseries develop Environmental Management Systems to reduce their impacts on the environment.
WetlandCare Australia is a national not-for-profit environmental organisation working with communities to protect, restore and promote wetlands since 1991.
The EMS workshop is funded by Hunter Central Rivers Catchment Authority, as part of their commitment to reduce the environmental impacts of business and industry on water quality in the catchment.
The participating nurseries, including operations located at Hunter Wetlands Centre, Hunter Region Botanic Gardens and Tilligerry Habitat, want to ensure their operations don’t have adverse impacts on sensitive wetlands nearby.
According to WetlandCare Australia’s Hunter Region Coordinator Louise Duff, the participants’ mission to protect the environment is reflected in their enthusiasm for the project. “These nurseries are all strongly committed to leading by example, reducing the impact of their operations in line with their environmental values,” said Ms Duff. Like many small businesses their resources are stretched thin. “This project will give them the extra resources they need to meet their environmental goals.”
Participating nursery managers are appreciating the opportunity to meet and share knowledge with peers from within their industry. A range of environmental issues including surface water management and weed control will be addressed through the project.
