Fact Sheets
Choosing which wetland to manage
Summary:
The South Australian Murray Valley contains over 1300 individual wetlands in 260 linked systems on the floodplains.
These wetlands have been changed by altered water flow patterns and volumes, resulting in loss of variety of natural life, poorer water quality and sometimes death of vegetation. There is a large task ahead to repair this damage. Part of the task is to decide which are the top priority wetlands for repair and management.
The aim of the Wetland Care Australia River Murray Integrated Wetland Strategy is to achieve real progress in actual on-ground works which will make a difference to the health and well being of key wetlands. These actions are developed in management plans for wetlands which are considered to be top priority.
