Wetland Care Australia - Current Projects

Environmental Change - Starting in your Backyard

WetlandCare Australia (WCA), with funding from the NSW Environmental Trust, would like to announce a new environmental education project, "Starting in your Backyard". Stage one of this project will be offered to residents living in the subcatchment surrounding the East Ballina North Creek Wetland. The project aims to raise the awareness of residents as to their impacts on the wetland, consider positive changes they can make at both the local and wider environmental level and help facilitate those changes.

East Ballina North Creek Wetland is a Reserve with a variety of important ecological, cultural and recreation values.  For more information on these wetlands click here. WCA currently assists in the environmental management of East Ballina North Creek wetland in conjunction with NSW Department of Lands. The Starting in your backyard project will support the on-ground works being conducted at the site using community education and empowerment strategies.

The project will involve;

• Workshops at the wetland based on education in, about and for the environment
• Residents developing their own goals and plan for how they are going to assist in protecting/enhancing the wider ecosystem, starting with their own backyard and what they do in it
• A series of information bulletins based on issues raised and concerns of the residents who attend the workshops
