Wetland Care Australia - Current Projects

Caring for Our Country

WetlandCare Australia is working with the Australian Federal Government to deliver on-ground wetland outcomes under its new natural resource management initiative - Caring for Our Country.

WetlandCare Australia is currently implementing the following projects under the

Community Coastcare component launched in 2008:

• Bribie community Wallum froglet and wetland protection and monitoring (Qld)
• Clarence River Estuary saltmarsh sea level rise adaptation and planning (NSW)
• Rocky Headlands protection and education project (NSW)
• Knockrow wetland protection and restoration (NSW)

• Healthy wetlands for healthy catchments in the Southern Rivers region (NSW) [contracted by Southern Rivers CMA]

  Landcare Program:

• Sustainable floodplain management in the Nambucca and Bellinger catchments (NSW)

  Open Grants:

• Rehabilitating Burdekin's Billabongs and Bowling Green Bay Catchments (Qld)

 

2009/10 Caring for our Country Business Plan:

WetlandCare Australia is seeking to continue delivering against our mission through the 2009/10 Caring for our Country Business Plan.

Mission: Supporting the community to protect and restore Australian wetlands since 1991

To this end, we are currently working with multiple partners to develop two medium sized, multi-region or national, wetland based program bids:

• Chain of Wetlands - meeting the challenges being imposed on coastal habitats
• Ramsar CPR - Connection, Protection and Rehabilitation - Community involvement in the protection and rehabilitation of Australia's Ramsar Wetlands

WetlandCare Australia would like to invite your organisation to be a partner in these innovative and leading programs. You may wish to contribute to these programs in a number of ways:

• Delivery of specific project outcomes
• Technical assistance
• Financial contributor
• Participant in promotion and activities
• General supporter

WetlandCare Australia is also available to assist your organisation in the delivery of your projects under the medium or large scale Caring for our Country proposals. If you require support for any/all of the following areas in your bids, WetlandCare Australia can provide a partnership proposal to implement a tailored delivery method and team:

• Wetland rehabilitation and conservation
• Community education in wetlands
• Cane toad control programs
• Aquatic Weeds of National Significance awareness and control
• Swamp Tea-Tree (Melaleuca irbyana) awareness and protection
